Product > Manual-Activator > Generating Codes with Manual-ActivatorGenerating Activation Codes with SoftwareShield Manual Activator
There are two modes to operate the SoftwareShield™ Manual-Activator:
- Off-Line Mode - In this mode you perform simple code exchanges. You must have a way to authenticate the user and verify that they have the right to receive the Activation Code you generate for them.
- CheckPoint Mode (online) - In this mode you perform Serial Number Code exchanges. This involves you using the Manual-Activator to log-in to your SoftwareShield CheckPoint License Server. Then, entering the users Serial Number. This effectively performs the authentication as a Serial Number is the "token of ownership". CheckPoint is available with the Server and IronWrap editions of SoftwareShield.
Off-line Mode Activation
There are five simple steps to generating and providing an Activation Code to your customer off-line. Naturally you will only provide the Activation Code to your customer once their payment has been completely processed (or you have authenticated them in some way). This section briefly describes the entire process of generating an Activation Code. Once you are in "Off-line Mode":
- Open the License Project File that corresponds with the license in the copy of your application you are generating a code for. Once you open the license project successfully, you will see it load into the Manual-Activator and all the available Authorization Codes for this license will be listed.
- Enter the Authorization Request Code that the customer has provided you in the Authorization Request Code edit box. The Authorization Request Code is then validated by the Manual-Activator.
- The Authorization Code that corresponds to the request code is displayed. You then ensure that the function that this Authorization Request Code provides is the function that the customer paid for. This is simple if you only have one code (to release a trial version for example) but is especially important if you have multiple codes that do different things that may cost different amounts.
- If a parameter is required (explicitly or implicitly) you enter the Parameter now.
- Once all fields have been completed correctly and a valid code has been generated - an indicator light at the bottom of the Activation Code Generator will turn from red to green indicating that the generation was successful. You will also see the Activation Code generated in the edit box. Provide this Activation Code to your customer so they can unlock their software.
CheckPoint Mode (online) Activation
There are four simple steps to generating and providing an Activation Code to your customer on-line with CheckPoint. This section briefly describes the entire process of generating an Activation Code. Once you are in "CheckPoint Mode":
- Log-in to the CheckPoint License Server using your CheckPoint Administrator account information.
- Enter the Serial Number that the customer has provided you in the Serial Number edit box. The Serial Number is validated by the Manual-Activator.
- Enter the Authorization Request Code that the customer has provided you in the Authorization Request Code edit box. The Authorization Request Code is then validated by the Manual-Activator.
- Once all fields have been completed correctly the "Generate Now" button will enable and will allow you to invoke the server to "consume" an available activation for the provided Serial Number and generate an Activation Code. Once the Activation Code has been generated - an indicator light at the bottom of the Activation Code Generator will turn from red to green indicating that the generation was successful. You will also see the Activation Code generated in the edit box. Provide this Activation Code to your customer so they can unlock their software.
Throughout the process of generating an Activation Code, text prompts on the dialog guide you and help you where necessary.
