Inputting Parameters

Inputting parameters into the SoftwareShield Manual-Activator is easy. Once your license is opened properly and a valid Authorization Request Code is input, the parameter area will be enabled if you need to input a parameter.

The input format and or control of the parameter area will change to reflect the type of parameter you must enter for this Authorization Definition. For example, you may need to enter a date for some expiration type codes, a number less than 10000 for execution type codes or any 16-bit number (0 to 65535) for general-use codes that take parameters.

The prompt in the parameter area will always give a brief description of the type of parameter you are expected to enter.

There are only three basic types of parameter.

  1. Numeric Parameter.

  2. Date Parameter.

  3. Run-Time Composite Parameter.

Each type of parameter has its own controls.

Numeric Parameter

When a numeric parameter is required the parameter area changes to a simple text box where you must enter a 16-bit number.  See the image below for an example:

Date Parameter

When a date parameter is required the parameter area changes to a drop-down calendar control where you must enter a date.  Note you can use the drop down calendar or directly enter digits into the text area of the control See the image below for an example:

Run-Time Composite Parameter

When a Run-Time Composite Payload parameter is required, the parameter area changes to a grayed out edit box.  Unlike the other two types, you do not directly enter the parameter.  Instead, when a Run-Time Composite Payload Parameter is required the grids check boxes become enabled so you can use your mouse to individually check all the "leaf" Authorization Definitions you wish to include in the payload (parameter). See the image below for an example:

Note in the example above, Authorization Definition #11 is the Run-Time Composite. We have included as "leaf" definitions for inclusion in the payload parameter definitions #3, #4, #5 and #9.  Note that the Composite Payload in the grayed out edit box is updated to reflect the currently assembled payload.  Note also that we have actually included in the payload a Design-Time Composite Definition which allows us to do even more complex activations (if needed).
