Overriding Authorization Request Codes

When you are using the Manual-Activator in off-line mode to perform a Simple Code Exchange, you have the option at run-time to override the Authorization Request Code received from the customer, and actually issue them an Activation Code which corresponds to a completely different Authorization Definition.

Although this will not be necessary often, it gives you the option when inspecting Authorization Request Codes, using the Manual-Activator, to make the decision to provide the customer with an Activation Code that may do something completely different than what was requested.

This option is not available when performing a Serial Number Code Exchange because the CheckPoint License Server always overrides the request with the Authorization Definition ID associated with the provided Serial Number.

You would most likely use this feature if, when inspecting the customers purchase, you find that the paid for something different than what the request code corresponds to. This is simple if you only have one code (to release a trial version for example) but is especially important if you have multiple codes that do different things that may cost different amounts.

To override the request using the Manual-Activator in off-line mode:

  1. Input the Authorization Request Code as you normally would.

  2. Check the "Override Authorization Request check-box.  The Authorization Definition grid will de-select the  Authorization Definition to which the Authorization  Request Code corresponds and the prompt next to the Authorization Request Code will display a warning, see image:

  3. Input the Authorization ID for the definition you want to activate in the "Activate Authorization ID" box.  The corresponding Authorization Definition will be selected in the Authorization Definition grid.  See image below:

  4. If a parameter is required for the newly selected Authorization definition, you will have to enter as you normally would.  Simply follow the standard instructions for the rest of the steps for generating an Activation Code.  The code generated will correspond to the newly selected definition.
