Web-Activator Configuration File Usage

You should already have read Web-Activator Communication and Web Interface URL Format.

The Web-Activator Configuration File is simply a text file on the web server that controls behaviour.  The contexts of the file is simply a list of parameters and values, each on a separate line, separated by the equals sign "=".  For example:

GENCODE_METHOD=ALL

This shows the parameter "GENCODE_METHOD" and its assigned parameter "ALL". Note there must be no extra spaces between the equals sign and the parameter or the value.  Each pair must be on a separate line in the file.

You can insert comments if you wish. Comments must be on their own line and be preceded by the double slash "//". Blank lines and comments are ignored.

Some other key notes about a configuration file:

  1. Using a Configuration File is optional.

  2. If a Configuration File is not specified, default values are used for all settings.

  3. All the parameters in the Configuration File are also optional. If a parameter / value pair is not supplied - a default value is used for that parameter.

  4. If you do use a Configuration File and a parameter is set to an invalid value or is entered incorrectly - the results may be undefined.

  5. All parameter specifiers and values are case sensitive.

The section on Web-Activator Configuration File Specifiers discusses the various specifiers available to you, how to use them and their defaults.

You can see a sample configuration file here.
