Update for Windows XP (KB935448)

Two of the latest Microsoft Security Updates (KB925902 (MS07-017) and security update KB928843 (MS07-008)) introduced a bug for Windows XP users where any application that uses HHCtrl.ocx (an ActiveX control used to display CHM help files) would not load.

Symptoms

Users will be presented with a dialog that appears like this:

The application Affected will not run.

Affected Systems

Only developer tools are Affected. This includes the SoftwareShield License Manager and the Manual-Activator only.

The run-time is not Affected.

Users of your protected software will not experience this issue with your software because of the ClientProtector (SSCProt.dll).

Solution

Microsoft has released a HotFix to resolve the issue. The hotfix makes several references to "RealTek HD Audio". However - the fix is related to the commonly used ActiveX component: HHCtrl.ocx. Disregard that the hotfix mentions RealTek Audio. The Hotfix will work even if you do not have RealTek Audio installed on your system.

From Microsoft:

Install this update to resolve an issue where the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start after you install security update KB925902 (MS07-017) and security update KB928843 (MS07-008).
